Book The Essentials of
Effective Prayer

Scripture: Luke 11:1
What did you learn from
marking praying
and pray?
Jesus prayed
(4336). As we learned on Day 2 of Week 1
in II Kings, Proseuchomai (4336) is used of prayer in general and is always used of
prayer to God. So Jesus was relating to
Father-God, either silently or outloud.
This passage doesn't really tell us which.
Have you ever been
intimidated by the prayer life of someone else, perhaps thinking, I could never
pray like that? Relate your experience
to how the disciples might have felt after hearing Jesus pray.
I'm not intimidated by
how other people pray. Personally, when
I want Jesus to teach me to pray, I want to continue to grow into deeper
fellowship with God so, when I read this passage, I thought this one disciple wanted
deeper fellowship too.
What request did the
disciples make, and what does it show us about their heart?
From this passage,
only one disciple asked, although he was speaking on behalf of all of them
because he used the word "us."
Perhaps the ones who didn't directly ask Jesus were used to having
someone else speak for them, like the Hebrews wanted Moses to speak for them,
or perhaps they were simply being polite and allowing one to speak for all of
them.
At least one of the
disciples wanted to learn from Jesus, just as we learn from the Holy Spirit
today, rather than learning from the teachings of man.
What about you? Do you have a heart to learn how to
pray? The desire to pray is the most
important element in learning how.
I do!
