Prayer, Week 3, Day 1

Book The Essentials of Effective Prayer
Week 3, Day 1, page 36
Scripture: Daniel 2:19-23

What characteristics of God did Daniel highlight in these verses?

Wisdom and power belong to Him
He changes the times and the epochs
He removes kings and establishes kings
He gives wisdom to wise men and knowledge to men of understanding.
He reveals the profound and hidden things
He knows what is in the darkness
Light dwells with Him

Discuss how you see worship being manifested in this passage.

Bless means to kneel down; worship means to bow down.

Years ago a friend and I (we planned the worship music at our church) tried to study this word worship and what God desires, and we found that there is no pattern to worship defined in Scripture.

A quote from Vine's:  "The worship of God is nowhere defined in Scripture… it is not confined to praise.  Broadly it may be regarded as the direct acknowledgement tot God of His nature, attributes, ways and claims, whether by the outgoing of the heart in praise and thanksgiving or by deed done in such acknowledgment."

I define worship as knowing God-- to give worth to Him.

As we come to know Him, we come to know ourselves as well.  He will increase; we will decrease as we come to know Him (John 3:30).

Discuss any insights from Daniel's prayer that might relate to your personal prayer life.

Looking forward to your insights.
